Introduction

Vino&U, a brand in the Wine & Spirits industry, sought to transform the online wine purchasing experience by leveraging technology. Their goal was to create a user-centric website that matches users with the perfect wine through a personality test powered by machine learning.

Challenge

  • Complex user experience: Designing a seamless and intuitive experience for users to understand and interact with the personality test and machine learning system that matches them with the perfect wine.
  • Personalization: Ensuring the site delivers a highly personalized experience, tailoring wine recommendations to each user’s unique personality profile.

Research & discovery

The design process began with a thorough exploration of Vino&U’s brand identity, target audience, and the unique value proposition offered by the personality-based wine-matching feature.

  • User personas:
    Detailed user personas were developed to represent different segments of wine consumers, from casual drinkers to connoisseurs. These personas informed the design process, ensuring the user experience catered to diverse needs.
  • Competitor analysis:
    A thorough competitor analysis helped identify gaps in the market and opportunities for Vino&U to differentiate itself, particularly through its unique machine learning-powered personality test.
  • Stakeholder interviews:
    Interviews with the Vino&U team clarified business goals, brand positioning, and the desired outcomes for users interacting with the site’s personality test.

UX design process

  • Information architecture (IA):
    The site’s information architecture was meticulously structured to ensure logical navigation and a clear pathway through the personality test, wine recommendations, and other key sections like “Personalized Tastings” and “Business Partnerships.”
  • User journey mapping:
